What is a bomber
A bomber is a jacket with elastic bands on the bottom of the product, the ends of the sleeves and on the collar. The collar is rather decorative, but the elastic bands on the sleeves and the bottom of the product are quite functional. Thanks to them, the jacket fits tighter to the body and the wind does not blow under it. Classic also means oblique pockets in the front and one more on the sleeve. All in all, it is above all a comfortable, warm and functional outerwear.
The first time most of us encountered the bomber was when watching American teen films. It’s usually part of the uniform of athletes and cheerleaders.
However, the world was given this jacket by the army, specifically the US Air Force. Bomber with an orange lining released for pilots in the mid-50s. A pilot who crashed turned his outer garment inside out so that rescuers could spot him from the air.
In the 70’s bomber began to wear representatives of subculture – mainly punks and skinheads. Then the jackets drew the attention of designers. Today, a comfortable bomber has become for many part of the everyday wardrobe.
What are the bomber and what they are combined with
Modern bombers differ in several criteria.
Material. Jackets are usually sewn from leather, mackintosh or dense knitwear. Although there are also exquisite silk or satin bomber, which look rather glamorous, not sporty.
Fit. Although the jacket is worn all the time, different volumes are relevant at different times. In the mid-2010s, bombers were worn more in size, now you can more often see oversize in the images. However, for your wardrobe, it is better to choose what suits you best, not what is in trend.
Length. The classic option ends approximately at the level of the hip bones. But there are lengthened and shortened models and even bomber-coats with a length below the knee.
Decor. Often bombers are made quilted. Sometimes they add additional pockets in the chest area. The collar is not only a stand from the fabric-rubber, a variety of options are possible. For example, on leather bombers often sew a lapel collar, sometimes with fur. Sports jacket models in the style of American schoolchildren are often equipped with an emblem on the chest, imitating the school logo.
Insulation. Bomber can be lightweight or with a layer of insulation.
The nature of the jacket is sporty, so the bomber is well combined with jeans, cargo trousers and other relaxed variants of the bottom. It’s better to choose casual shoes too – rough boots, trainers and trainers, deserts and the like. Bombers are usually not good friends with classic clothes. Although there are non-voluminous models of leather with a lapel collar, which will look good with strict trousers, but this is more of an exception.
At the same time, girls can go against the nature of the bomber and play on the contrast. For example, wear the jacket with a strappy dress and sandals, combine it with a satin midi or maxi skirt. Long bomber up to the middle of the thigh will look harmoniously with short shorts or mini-skirt shorter than the jacket.
